NDP Photo-Op a Strange Idea
Imagine my surprise when I opened my Stoney Creek News last week and saw a picture of NDP candidate Lorrie McKibbon standing in front of our building: John Knox Christian School! The caption read that she “...discussed education issues last week at John Knox Christian School in Winona.” She did? With whom? I assume Ms. McKibbon only discussed her platform with your reporter in our parking lot. She certainly didn’t seem too anxious to come inside and talk to any of our supporters about the NDP’s platform, despite the fact I would have loved to ask her a few questions.

The most obvious questions I would have asked are these: 1) “If the NDP platform is called “public power”, why are they not big supporters of the tax credit for those members of the public who want to exercise some choice in the education of their children? Or is ‘public power’ only reserved for those who agree with her approach to things?” 2) “Does the NDP not consider the middle and working class parents who support John Knox members of the ‘public’?”

I frankly think it is pathetic that Ms. McKibbon would be willing to use our school as a backdrop, while to my knowledge she has made no attempt to find out who we are, why we exist, what our goals are for our children, and what our role in the local community has been for the past forty-two years. John Knox works to educate its students in a way consistent with the values of its supporters who come from a wide range of Christian backgrounds. It wants its students to “Live for Jesus, Learn for Life, and Serve With Gladness”. And it wants to see a strong system of public, catholic and independent schools that are accessible to all who desire those approaches to education. I suspect Ms. McKibbon would agree with much that she would see happening in our school, and I’d invite her to step inside and see for herself!
